Analyst Preç Zogaj stated that Greece's reaction to Fredi Beleri, who was arrested on May 2 for vote-buying, to veto Albania's integration into the EU, is a hostile act towards Albania.
In an interview for the show "The Unexposed", Zogaj said that this veto is an abuse and waste of Greece's membership in the EU and the right it has to veto. He added that an EU mission should come to our country and look into this issue.
" I see Beler as an Albanian citizen. Of course, he has been arrested, there are criminal charges against him, his people have been caught buying votes. In Albania, this is gangrene. I don't like long imprisonment without punishment. I don't want to prejudice justice, but many months passed for a routine criminal offense.He is kept in a state of detention which is basically imprisonment.
I accept the security measure, imprisonment even indefinitely for criminal offenses of murder, for criminals and people who present danger, or there is evidence that they can flee. Second, I say this too, I wholeheartedly do not approve of security measures with long prison terms.
Justice could have operated faster. What Greece has done, especially yesterday and today, is an unfriendly act towards Albania. It is an act of the Greek state, an abuse and waste of Greece's membership in the EU and its right to veto.
Of course, you said that throughout these years, there have been periods of improvement in relations, but there is an old accumulation that often comes to the fore and it has also come out in this case, where Greece seeks to release a person arrested by justice. So he asks Albania to become a political state. This is contrary to the standard of integration in the European Union. Bilateralism can permanently hinder EU enlargement.
I think an EU mission should come here and look into this matter. It seems to me that Greece wants to reach other issues here, so that Albania accuses itself as a country where there is no justice. They have gone far. They say if you don't release this, we will veto it ," said Zogaj.
