During the official stay of the judges of the Constitutional Court in the USA, the President of this Court Holta Zaçaj gave an interview to the Voice of America where she made a brief summary of the purpose of the meetings held with some of the highest personalities of justice in Washington, the role of Constitutional Court, the relations with the parliament and the challenges that this Court is facing.
In this interview, Zaçaj asserted that during the meetings with senior officials in Washington, the most important and current issues of the Albanian judiciary and justice were discussed and the importance of the Constitutional Court in resolving the conflict of powers between state bodies was discussed in particular. the final interpretation of the Constitution and the guarantee of respect for fundamental rights and freedoms.
Asked by Voice of America journalist Kejda Kostreci about the opposition's criticism of the decision-making of the Rama Meloni case, the President of the Constitutional Court stated that the dissatisfied parties have their right to criticism as a right to freedom of expression, which enables all actors give their opinion.
Regarding Xhaçka's mandate, Zaçaj said: "An unusual and impossible situation to happen in a democratic state. The decisions of the Constitutional Court must be implemented. The institutions that have the duty to implement them must behave in a constitutional manner." .
Asked about the vote of immigrants, Zaçaj answered: "The court speaks with decisions, they must be implemented, it is not up to politics to decide how and in what way the decisions should be implemented, they are self-executing. Every decision that does not coincide with that of the Constitutional Court are not appropriate decisions or actions."
The opposition criticizes him for taking the side of the government, the president of the Court Zaçaj replies: "In every decision of the Court there are dissatisfied parties. The Court acts in a hermetic manner. Judges are independent, they do not act under pressure."
