Koxhaj was the security guard at the Tirana Court of Appeals and immediately after Judge Kalaja was murdered, he was arrested by the Tirana police on charges of "Abuse of duty" after he failed to exercise physical control over Elvis and Gjon Shkambi, who entered the courtroom armed.
The court's scanner detector and red signal for the presence of metal objects, but security officer Banush Koxhaj, although he was there, did not exercise physical control over the two people, but continued to remain seated in the chairs.
This led to Elvis Shkambi crossing the security perimeter, entering the courtroom armed. As soon as the judge, Astrit Kalaja, gave the verdict, Elvis Shkambi shot him with a German-made pistol, "Welt Waffen Browning", leaving him dead on the spot.
With the same weapon, Elvis Shkambi shot father and son, Ragip Kurtaj and Elvis Kurtaj, who was accompanying the father to court that day. Forensic expertise revealed that a single bullet wounded the father and son.
