Murder of Martin Can, Court of Appeal postpones decision for Mario Përlleshaj

The Court of Appeal failed to deliver a decision this Tuesday on the trial related to the murder of student Martin Cani.

The hearing against the defendant Mario Përlleshaj began as scheduled, but ended without a final decision. The reason for the postponement was the absence of one of the members of the Appeals Court's judicial panel, which made it impossible to announce the verdict.

The serious incident, which caused strong public reactions and protests regarding school safety, occurred on November 18, 2024, near the 9-year "Fan S. Noli" school in Tirana.

Mario Përlleshaj was sentenced on December 9, 2025 to 16 years in prison for the murder of Martin Cani, as well as for the attempted murder of his friend, who was injured during the incident. A new date for the continuation of the process at the Court of Appeal is now expected.
