Partial local elections are being held today in 5 municipalities across the country. 334,539 thousand citizens with the right to vote will elect new mayors in Vlora, Berat, Cërrik, Mat and Tepelena, while 13 candidates are running for the leadership of these municipalities.
In almost all municipalities where voting is taking place today, at least in the last three elections, the mayor who was elected was from the ranks of the Socialist Party. The only exception is Mati, which in 2015 brought out Nezir Rizvani from the ranks of the People's Alliance for Work and Dignity, a coalition led by the Democratic Party, as the winner.
