The Mayor of Lezha, Pjerin Ndreu, gave an interview to the media regarding the fire that engulfed Shengjin throughout yesterday, July 30.
Ndreu described it as one of the most difficult events, but thanks to the commitment of all of Albania, the situation was kept under control.
" It was one of the most difficult situations we have been through. It was a very big risk because of an extraordinary perception, because of the strong wind, some small fires became big. Thanks to the commitment of the whole of Albania, the firefighting forces under the direction of the director of the firefighting service Arben Cara, his staff has made it possible to keep the situation under control, to have no damage to people, but small damage to businesses. If they didn't work nonstop for 48 hours, it would be a sad story ," said Ndreu.
Furthermore, the mayor added that the intervention is continuing even for the smaller hearths, as they can be reactivated due to the wind.
" We are also dealing with smaller outbreaks, we are waiting for helicopters, to re-evaluate some outbreaks that are not active, but history showed that with the wind they can be reactivated. We are all here, with the firefighters of Tirana, Durrës, Fier, Berat and all of Albania. We are also working with the tourist operators to make it real, because there was a psychological shock in some, panic in some vacationers, but now these are things that have been overcome ," he concluded.
