The March 25 court hearing against defendant Fatmir Mediu for the Gërdec tragedy was postponed again because the lawyers said that he had gone to Washington, invited for meetings in the American Congress, but did not present an official invitation, while the prosecutor and the judge did not request it.
Neither the Presidency of the Assembly is aware that MP Fatmir Media has been invited by the American Congress, nor does the Republican Party of Albania have an invitation for him as party leader; a fact that proves his ruse to avoid appearing at the Gerdec court hearing.
According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, the hearing should have been held in absentia, after Fatmir Mediu avoided trial 13 times, going to the US on trial dates, falsely claiming to have invitations from the US, NATO, Congress and the Senate, and going for medical treatment.
In addition to the fraud to drag out the Gerdec trial, SPAK should investigate the former defendant minister Fatmir Mediu, regarding the financial sources of the numerous trips he makes to the US and his stays there, often accompanied.
According to the data, it turns out that from January 2022 to March 2025, Fatmir Mediu traveled 47 times to the USA, where he stayed for 302 days, which means he spent millions on airplanes, taxis, hotels, etc.
MP Fatmir Mediu did not declare these travel and stay expenses in America on his asset declaration form at the ILDKPI, although he is required to do so by Law No. 9049, dated April 10, 2003 "On the declaration and control of assets and financial obligations of elected officials and senior public servants."
While 'Miss' Evgjeni Bashari of ILDPKI has not verified these travel and stay expenses in the US; nor has she filed a criminal complaint for concealing financial income; it is SPAK's obligation to investigate from which sources Fatmir Mediu obtained these incomes.
If he was officially invited, the expenses were paid by the State Department, Congress, and Senate, but Fatmir Mediu is obliged to declare every penny to the ILDKPI, even detailing the costs of air travel, hotel, payments for meals, and other services during stays in the US.
