The state budget continues to be eroded from year to year both by abuses, corruption and wastage, but also by the pleasures of the citizens. In addition to increasing their salaries, MPs, ministers and administration officials also receive large sums from travel allowances. Deputies and ministers have even declared in their wealth declarations that they receive millions a year from diets.
But according to the data provided by 'Open Data' for the past year, it turns out that the entire state apparatus has spent nearly 16 million euros or 16 billion lek on travel, meals, hotels and plane tickets.
To be more precise, 1,567,959,478 lek, or 15 million euros, were spent only on diets, 13,500,333 lek went for hotel accommodation and 78,946,240 for plane tickets.
The data are obtained from the treasury transactions that each institution has made. As for hotel expenses, it appears that the Ministry of Finance is at the top of the list, whose employees seem to have been traveling abroad.
As for diets, the institutions that have given up are: Tirana Municipality, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Culture, etc. There are also expenses from other directorates and institutions.
Undoubtedly, the law guarantees such a thing, but it seems that politicians and their subordinates are making the most of it, although the directors of the administration receive millions and millions at the end of the month. When the salaries of the hackers were published, it appeared that those who follow the officials on trips abroad received higher salaries than MPs. But it seems they don't use it to spend outside.
