The following day, journalist Eni Vasili is expected to be elected General Director of the Albanian Radio and Television (RTSH), in flagrant violation of the law and in a clear conflict of interest.
According to the documents and CV submitted in the candidacy process, Eni Vasili is currently a shareholder and administrator of the advertising and marketing company "Open Media & Marketing Consulting". This fact is in clear contradiction with article 104, point 1/b of law no. 97/2013, "On audiovisual media in the Republic of Albania", which clearly states that the candidate for head of RTSH cannot be in conflict of interest with private companies in the field of media and advertising.
The advancement of her candidacy to the final stage, ignoring this conflict of interest, constitutes the criminal offense of abuse of office by the Chairman of the RTSH Steering Council and the members who approved this candidacy.
Another scandalous fact is related to the managerial platform that Vasili presented during her candidacy. In the documents she submitted, it is clearly seen that her goal is to turn RTSH from a public television into a state television, openly placing this institution under direct government subordination, in contradiction to every principle of public media.
This development, if not stopped in time, will further deepen the degradation of RTSH, turning it into an extension of government propaganda and eliminating any standard of editorial independence.
The relevant institutions, starting from the Parliament to SPAK, must urgently react to this serious scandal, by investigating and preventing the flagrant violation of the law and the political capture of the most important public media institution in the country./ Pamphlet
