17 million euros were wasted, why do the INSTAT figures for the population
Publication of results

Data and question marks, why did the population census cause so much debate this time...

After several postponements, the Institute of Statistics published the population census data yesterday, data that caused a lot of debate. According to INSTAT, about 2.4 million inhabitants live in Albania, nearly 400 thousand less than the last census of 2011. But this figure has caused many reactions, seeing the high flow of people leaving the country in recent years.

It is enough to look at the bars and restaurants and it is clear that there are no human feet left in Albania. Almost all young people are out. However, facts and data are needed to contradict INSTAT's data.

Who better than EUROSTAT can be used to question the INSTAT data. In 2021, EUROSTAT issued a report, which stated that from 2008 to 2021, more than 700 thousand Albanians had left Albania. Meanwhile, we have the years 2022 and 2023 that EUROSTAT does not have, where even in these years there was a high flow of departures. So who should we believe? INSTAT, which says that 400,000 Albanians have left, or EUROSTAT, which says that almost twice as many have left.

The other element is that the figures do not match based on other data. For example, if we look at the figures for religions, the final result is 2,402,113 inhabitants. Meanwhile, according to INSTAT, there are 2,412,113 inhabitants in the country.

Then we have the voting data. The number of Albanians with the right to vote in the 2021 elections was approximately 3.59 million (3,588,869), while the number of those who participated in the voting was 1.66 million (1,662,253). While it is certain that a significant part of the almost 1.93 million voters who did not participate in the voting, do not live in Albania. So even if we include people under the age of 18, we still have a big difference in numbers.

The biggest sticking point is the lag. Why was the release of such results delayed by 8 months? In Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, etc., the data comes out in a short time. Only here it takes 1 year. In addition, we only have the figures given by INSTAT, no document to prove the figures.

The next question mark is about the survey. How accurate was he? At the address of " Pamphlet ", but also beyond, there were many of those who complained when the survey was conducted that the surveyors did not go to their residence. Also, many of us have acquaintances who say that they did not take part in the survey. Are the forms filled in at the office? We also know very well how the survey is done, the forms are filled quickly and quickly at the door, without carrying out a complete process. Even, according to the complaints to us, the surveyors did not knock at all, but put a letter under the door so that you could call them. If you did not receive them, they wrote that the apartment was unoccupied.

Almost 17 million euros were given to carry out this census. Of this money, 9.35 million euros were received from the State Budget, 4.8 million euros are donations from the European Union, 1.59 million euros from SIDA, 726.7 thousand euros from SDC and 16.9 thousand from UNFPA. Do the data justify all this money, or did it go into someone's pockets? / Pamphlet
