Deadlock in US-Iran talks, agreement on nuclear issue missing

Negotiations between the United States and Iran ended without an agreement after 21 hours of intense talks, leaving diplomatic efforts for a solution to the nuclear program and security in the Middle East in limbo.

US Vice President JD Vance confirmed that the American delegation is returning to Washington without concrete results, stressing that, despite long efforts, the Iranian side did not accept the conditions proposed by Washington.

" We communicated with the president constantly. I don't know how many times we spoke to him, maybe six or even twelve times in the last 21 hours ," Vance said, underlining President Donald Trump's direct involvement in the negotiating process.

He added that the US participated in the talks with a constructive approach and in good faith. “ We negotiated in good faith. We are leaving with a very simple proposal, our final and best offer. We will see if the Iranians accept it ,” he said.

According to Vance, a number of key issues were addressed during the discussions, but no compromise was reached on the fundamental points. “ We simply did not reach a point where the Iranians were willing to accept our terms. I believe we have been flexible and willing to compromise ,” he said.

The vice president stressed that Washington's primary objective remains unchanged: preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. " We need to see a clear commitment that they will not seek nuclear weapons or the capabilities to develop them quickly. That is the president's primary goal ," Vance said.

He added that the US concern is not just about the current situation, but about the long-term perspective. “ The fundamental question is whether there is a real will from Iran not to develop nuclear weapons, not just now or in two years, but in a sustainable way. We have not seen that yet ,” he concluded.

On the other hand, Iran's reaction was critical of the American stance. An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that the success of the negotiations depends on the US dropping demands that Tehran describes as "excessive and illegal."

Sources close to the Iranian delegation, quoted by the Fars and Tasnim agencies, claimed that Washington has sought benefits at the negotiating table that it did not achieve in previous confrontations, including issues related to the Strait of Hormuz and the civilian nuclear program.

According to these sources, Iran has presented proposals that it considers reasonable and is not under pressure to reach a quick agreement. Tehran emphasizes that "the ball is in the US court" and demands a more realistic approach from the American side.

The negotiations took place in Islamabad in an attempt to ease tensions and reach a broader agreement on regional stability. However, the lack of progress highlights the deep divide between the two countries on strategic issues.

So far, no date has been announced for the next round of talks, while both sides remain in their current positions.
