Israel's military is said to have presented a number of options for possible strikes against Iran - with the war cabinet now weighing them in a meeting scheduled to begin at noon today.
An Israeli source has informed the media that Israel cannot allow such a large attack – involving more than 300 drones and missiles, launched directly from Iran for the first time – to pass without some kind of response.
Some Israeli politicians argue that a strong message must be sent to prevent Iran from repeating its actions.
However, key figures in the war cabinet have also highlighted the possibility of strengthening the "strategic alliance" against the threat from Iran - building on the support shown by the US, UK, Jordan and other allies in deterring the attack.
During the attack, Israel says Iran attempted to attack key strategic infrastructure, including the Nevatim air force base - where it maintains its stealth fighter jets - but that it did not have an impact.
