Vladimir Putin talks about his political successor in Russia.
The Kremlin's longest-serving leader since Joseph Stalin hinted that there could be competition between several candidates.
"I always think about it," said Putin, 72, when asked if he was thinking about who would succeed him.
"Ultimately, the choice is up to the people, the Russian people," Putin said, adding "I think it should be one person, or rather several people, so that people have the opportunity to choose."
There is no clear successor to Putin, although under the Russian Constitution, if the president is unable to fulfill his duties, the prime minister - now Mikhail Mishustin - will assume the president's powers.
