The White House has stated that the FBI's warning of a possible Iranian drone attack in California was based on unverified information and that there was never a real threat from Iran to the territory of the United States.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said the alert distributed last month to law enforcement in California was based on an email containing unconfirmed information.
" To be clear: there has been and is no such threat from Iran to our homeland ," Leavitt wrote in a post on the X platform.
The FBI warning was distributed in late February to police departments in California and mentioned the possibility of Iran carrying out a surprise drone attack from an unidentified ship near the US coast, in the event that Washington struck targets in Iran.
The document stated that potential targets could be located on the west coast of the United States, particularly in California.
The warning came at a time of high tensions, after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran almost two weeks ago, escalating the conflict in the Gulf region.
Tehran has responded with retaliatory attacks on Israel and US allies in the region, following strikes that killed several senior Iranian officials, including the country's supreme leader.
However, US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that he is not concerned about the possibility of Iran extending its retaliation to US territory.
"No, I'm not," Trump told reporters when asked about this scenario.
The White House's clarification aims to reduce concerns following the alert issued by the FBI, which raised suspicions of a possible Iranian attack on US territory.
