Businessmen Asmir Jahoski and Ratko Kapushevski were arrested

During 2025, the citizens of North Macedonia were informed about several high-profile suspected corruption cases, for which there is still no epilogue: neither indictments nor decisions to halt investigations.

Businessmen Asmir Jahoski and Ratko Kapushevski were arrested, the office of former SOZR director Pece Mircevski was raided, and there were “indications” about the whereabouts of former Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi.

The main investigation is related to the supply of fuel oil to the Negotino thermal power plant (2021–2023), where the prosecution suspects budget damage of 167.5 million euros. Samples of the fuel oil have been sent for expertise to Serbia, and the prosecution is waiting for assistance from professors and the Ministry of Internal Affairs for additional documentation.

Precautionary measures are in place for the suspected businessmen, including periodic court appearances, financial guarantees and passport confiscation. The investigation involves a total of 13 suspects and one company, with criminal offenses such as misuse of public procurement and money laundering.

Other cases include the affairs at the State Lottery, where there is suspicion of embezzlement in service and misuse of high positions, including former ESM executives and Artan Grubi, who is on the run.

State Prosecutor Ljupco Kocevski resigned in December 2025, while Anita Topolova-Isajlovska was appointed acting, starting the transition period for the selection of a new Chief of the Public Prosecution Office.
