Will Iran accept the US's 15-point plan, as Trump has hinted? Pakistan has announced that direct talks between the US and Iran will soon take place.
US President Donald Trump has suggested that Tehran has broadly accepted a 15-point US plan to end the war. Asked whether Iran had responded to his proposal, Trump replied aboard Air Force One: “They’ve given us most of the points. Why wouldn’t they?” The Republican did not provide further details on the Islamic Republic’s so-called concessions.
Meanwhile, Iran has agreed to allow 20 oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, according to US President Donald Trump. The departure will take place on Monday morning and will last for several days, the Republican said overnight aboard Air Force One.
He said it was a “sign of respect” from Tehran. Trump said: “All I can say is that we are making very good progress in these negotiations, but you never know what will happen with Iran. We are negotiating with them, and in the end we may have to hit them again from the air.”
Meanwhile, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Sunday that talks between Iran and the United States on the Middle East war are expected soon. Pakistan will be the host country for these talks. Dar did not initially provide information on whether the negotiations would be in a direct or indirect format.
Will the US take Charg Island?
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has speculated about US troops taking over the Iranian island of Charg. “Maybe we take Charg, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options,” Trump told the Financial Times in an interview published late Monday. “That would also mean we would have to stay there for a while.”
The island in the Persian Gulf is considered the Islamic Republic's most important oil port. Before the war, almost all of Iran's crude oil exports were delivered there through the tanker terminal. Asked about Iranian defense capabilities on the island, Trump replied: "I don't believe they have any defenses. We could take it very easily."/ DW
