Vučić declares total victory, opposition disputes results in several

The student list claims irregularities and does not recognize the preliminary results.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić declared victory for his party in all ten local elections held in the country, while opposition representatives and civic groups raised doubts about the process in some areas. The news is based on Serbian media reports.

The polling stations closed around 20:00, while Vučić went public around 23:00, declaring that his list had won in all municipalities and communes where voting took place, including Bor, Smederevska Palanka, Bajina Bashta, Kulla, Lučani, Aranželovac, Kladovo, Knjaževci, Majdanpek and Sevojno.

According to data published by him, the list affiliated with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) secured a majority in all of these areas, with results ranging from around 49 percent in Bor to over 70 percent in Kladovo.

However, in the municipality of Kulla, representatives of the student list “Glas Mladih” contested the results. They stated that only about 80 percent of the votes had been counted and that, according to them, they were at an advantage. They also reported problems at some polling stations, including a lack of control sheets and restrictions on observers.

Meanwhile, in Knjazevac, a protest took place near the bus station, which ended after the opposition announced that it had “unblocked” an illegal SNS headquarters. In Bajina Bashta, opposition representatives accepted the result, but stressed that the gap with Vučić’s list had narrowed compared to previous elections.

The CRTA observation mission assessed the election process with grades from “very weak” to “weak”, citing incidents and problems, particularly in Bor, Kulla and Bajina Bashta.

Voter turnout was higher than in the 2022 elections, reaching over 70 percent in some municipalities such as Aranxhelovaci and Kulla.

The results remain preliminary and final confirmation from the electoral authorities is awaited.
