French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed full support for the ten-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, while stressing the need for caution in its implementation.
Through a reaction on social media, Macron raised concerns that the agreement may be at risk due to the continuation of military operations on the ground.
He called for the protection of the civilian population on both sides of the border, stressing that Hezbollah must lay down its weapons, while Israel must respect Lebanon's sovereignty and cease hostilities.
"I call for the protection of the civilian population on both sides of the border between Lebanon and Israel. Hezbollah must give up its weapons. Israel must respect Lebanon's sovereignty and stop the fighting ," he said.
During the day, in Paris, Macron, along with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, are expected to co-chair a virtual meeting with the participation of around 40 countries.
The meeting aims to establish a multilateral mission to ensure the safety of navigation and the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
