
Leonardo Gesualdo from Foggia, a key figure in the "Società foggiana" organization, is arrested.
The notorious Italian mafia boss, who had been on the run for five years, was arrested by the Carabinieri this morning.
It concerns 39-year-old Leonardo Gesualdo from Foggia, a key figure in the "Società foggiana" organization.
Early in the morning, GIS (Italian Special Operations Unit) carabinieri forcibly entered a house on the outskirts of Foggia, where they found the 39-year-old asleep.
Gesualdo did not resist and during the search a pistol with six rounds in the magazine was found.
Since 2020, when he managed to escape during a major police operation that was underway at the time, Gesualdo, who had been sentenced to 12 years in prison, had been on the list of the most dangerous fugitives in Italy.
For this operation, temporary arrest warrants were issued against 44 people, mainly for criminal offenses of extortion.
