"Russia could attack NATO", German secret services sound the alarm;

If anyone still wants to compete with us in the military sphere, as we say, let them try. Russia's countermeasures will not be long in coming.

A senior European Union defense official has claimed that German intelligence services have uncovered evidence suggesting the Kremlin is discussing possible military action against NATO.

Andrius Kubilius, the European Commissioner for Defence and Space, urged the continent to prepare its defence against Russia, drawing lessons from Ukraine's drone warfare tactics.

Speaking to the Polish newspaper Wyborcza, he issued a stark warning about President Putin's plans for Europe, saying: "I trust the secret services. And German intelligence claims to have evidence that the Kremlin is discussing an attack on NATO. And if they are discussing it, are they planning an attack?"

"We don't know, but such signals should be taken very seriously. They could really be ready for war. We should also be ready for it and learn not only from the experiences of the Ukrainians, but also from the Russians," he said.

But the Russian President dismissed what he called fabricated panic among NATO allies about a possible attack on a member nation, while noting the alliance's provision of weapons, intelligence and military guidance to Ukraine.

"If anyone still has a desire to compete with us in the military sphere, as we say, let them try. Russia's countermeasures will not be long in coming," the Russian dictator added.

Before Putin's comments, Trump addressed a meeting of US generals and admirals, criticizing Russia's war with Ukraine: "You've been fighting a war for four years that should have lasted a week. Are you a paper tiger?"

In addition to the verbal arguments, there has been an increasing number of incursions into the airspace of NATO countries, the Mirror reports, which some attribute to Russia.

Some experts suggest that it may be Moscow testing NATO's response.

On September 10, a series of Russian drones entered Polish airspace, prompting NATO aircraft to rush to intercept and shoot down some of the equipment.

This incident marked the first direct meeting between NATO and Russia since Putin declared war on Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

A few days later, three Russian fighter jets were escorted out of Estonian airspace by NATO aircraft, while flights near airports, military installations and critical infrastructure have been reported elsewhere in Europe.

Russia has denied any deliberate wrongdoing or involvement in the incidents, with details remaining scarce as European authorities refrain from publishing detailed accounts of drone strikes, with some not publicly acknowledging the flights until days later. /Adapted from Daily Star/
