Belgrade Police Chief Veselin Milic was arrested this Friday as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Aleksandar Nesovic, known by the nickname "Baja", who has been missing since May 12, 2026.
According to the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, Milic is suspected of the criminal offenses of "failure to report a criminal offense and its perpetrator" and "assistance after the commission of a criminal offense." Serbian authorities have announced that he has been detained for 48 hours and is expected to be questioned by prosecutors.
The investigation is related to the disappearance of Nesovic, who was last seen at the "27" restaurant in the Senjak area of Belgrade. According to investigators, it is being verified whether Milic had knowledge of the incident or obstructed its investigation.
Eight other people were arrested in the same operation, including three police officers, the owner of the restaurant where the victim was, and a waiter who was on duty that evening.
Among those detained is Sasa Vukovic, known as "Boske", suspected of attempted murder, illegal possession of a weapon and causing general danger. While his wife is suspected of having helped secure the weapon used in another criminal incident.
Serbian authorities suspect that Nesovic's disappearance may be linked to clashes between criminal groups, while the investigation is expanding into several leads. The case has caused strong reactions in Serbia, as Veselin Milic is considered one of the most well-known figures in the country's security structures.
Meanwhile, the police and the prosecution have warned that investigations are continuing and more details are expected in the coming days.
