US President Donald Trump shared a post on the Truth Social platform, calling for the arrest of former President Barack Obama and accusing him of unfounded treason.
The post, originally published by another user, repeated the claim that Trump has articulated for years that the Obama administration had spied on his 2016 presidential campaign.
"Arrest them all. Prosecute them all. Imprison them immediately for treason, conspiracy, and attempting to overthrow the government of the United States. But first, Barack Obama," the post shared by Trump read at the end.
The White House and representatives for Barack Obama did not publicly comment on this post until Tuesday morning.
The post was part of a wave of social media activity by Trump overnight. Between 10 p.m. Monday and around 8 a.m. Tuesday, he posted or reposted more than four dozen messages on Truth Social, just hours before departing for a high-level summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
A significant portion of the posts reiterated Trump's claims about the 2020 presidential election, which he continues to claim without evidence was rigged. About a dozen posts directly attacked Obama, with one describing him as "the most demonic force in American politics in decades."
Trump also attacked the New York Times for a report on the costs of restoring and painting the Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. The newspaper reported that the project would cost $13.1 million, while Trump had previously stated the figure was $1.8 million.
“This is not just a paint job, as the poor NYT reporter David Fahrenthold inaccurately and maliciously claims. It is a very complex work of intelligent and aesthetic construction,” Trump wrote. He did not directly dispute the reporting of the $13.1 million cost.
On Tuesday morning, Trump's attention shifted partly to Iran. He released a graphic suggesting that the US war with Iran was over and had lasted only six weeks. He also shared images that appeared to be generated by artificial intelligence, showing US forces shooting down Iranian planes and equipment.
