A massive fire on a bus in the city center of Kerzers, in the Swiss canton of Fribourg, has caused several deaths and injuries, the Keystone-ATS agency reported.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Cantonal police confirmed information initially published by several Swiss media outlets, including the newspaper La Liberté.
A police spokesman said it was still too early to determine the cause of the fire and that investigations were ongoing.
Among the injured, one person was transported by the Rega emergency service helicopter for medical treatment.
The area where the incident occurred has been cordoned off by police, while authorities have asked citizens to stay away from the scene to facilitate emergency operations and investigations.
Several witnesses, quoted by Swiss media, have stated that a passenger on the bus is suspected of setting himself on fire, causing the fire that then engulfed the entire vehicle.
Police have not yet confirmed this version and are expected to provide more details once the initial investigations are completed.
