Jordan Bardella, leader of France's far-right National Rally party, will head a new right-wing grouping in the European Parliament, called Patriots for Europe.
The announcement comes a day after Bardella's party lost the second round of snap legislative elections in France.
In a post-election speech on Sunday night, Bardella said members of the National Assembly in the European Parliament will join a "big group" that will affect "the balance of power in Europe, rejecting the flow of migrants, punitive ecology and the capture of our sovereignty".
On Monday, Bardella said Patriots for Europe represents "the hope for tens of millions of citizens in European countries who value their identity, sovereignty and freedom."
He also pledged to work "to reorient policies in the service of our nations and peoples".
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Herbert Kickl of Austria's far-right Freedom Party, and Andrej Babis, leader of the Czech populist ANO party, announced last month the formation of the Patriots for Europe alliance.
Orban said that they have signed a "patriotic manifesto", which promises "peace, security and development" instead of "war, migration and stagnation" brought about by the "Brussels elite".
Within a week, parties from the right and extreme right in 12 European countries said they will join this grouping./ REL
