The FBI's August 2022 raid was in execution of a search warrant on former President Donald Trump who allegedly took White House files—including highly classified information—with him when he left the White House and refused to turned them over, in violation of the Presidential Records Act.
The FBI said it tried for months to negotiate the return of the files, which belong to the US government, not any official, and launched the raid only as a last resort.
