At least 64 people have died in a major police operation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, aimed at dismantling drug networks and drug trafficking. Four police officers are among the dead.
Authorities said about 2,500 police officers were involved in the operation and 81 arrests were made. State Governor Claudio Castro said 18 criminals were neutralized, calling it the largest operation in Rio's history.
He said the aim was to limit the activities of criminal organisations that control the favelas in the area. He confirmed that police officers were also killed, without giving further details.
