Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the most important technological developments of recent years, changing the way businesses and institutions around the world work.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has expanded the list of professions that he believes will remain irreplaceable despite the advancement of Artificial Intelligence. In addition to programmers, biologists and energy sector specialists, he has also added professional athletes.

The use of AI is expanding rapidly, from content creation and promotional materials to business process automation. In parallel, the technology is also impacting the labor market.

According to a study by investment bank Morgan Stanley, cited by Bloomberg, Artificial Intelligence contributed to a net reduction of about 8% of jobs in the United Kingdom over the past year, one of the highest rates among major economies.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Gates said that professional sports are one area where humans will continue to have an advantage. "We wouldn't want to see computers playing baseball," he said.

When asked whether humans will remain indispensable in the future, Gates replied that most activities will not require human intervention, but added that some areas will remain exclusively human.

"There will be some things we will keep to ourselves, but in terms of manufacturing goods, transportation and food production, over time these will become solved problems," he said.

Meanwhile, a study published by Microsoft in 2025 analyzed the professions that could be most impacted by the use of Artificial Intelligence chatbots.

According to Microsoft senior researcher Kiran Tomlinson, the study does not aim to predict the disappearance of professions, but to identify jobs where AI can be used productively to support or automate certain tasks.

The professions with the highest degree of overlap with Artificial Intelligence skills are:

Translators and interpreters (98%);

Historians (91%);

Mathematicians (91%);

Editors and proofreaders (91%);

Programmers of automatic code generation systems (90%);

Writers and authors (85%);

Statistical analysis assistants (85%);

Sales representatives (84%);

Technical documentation drafter (83%);

Journalists (81%).

The study emphasizes that these professions are not expected to disappear, but that a significant portion of their tasks can be performed or supported by Artificial Intelligence tools.
