The Kremlin appears optimistic about achieving peace, 3 years after Russia militarily attacked Ukraine in an attempt at a full-scale invasion.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, speaking about the phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that now the talks will be about peace and not war.
The Kremlin stated today, Sunday, that the importance of the phone conversation between the American and Russian presidents is that now Russia and the US will talk about peace and not war.
"It is a strong message that we will now try to resolve the problems through dialogue," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state television journalist Pavel Zarubin.
Peskov said the first meeting between Putin and Trump is of particular importance given the current circumstances, adding that Western sanctions will not hinder Russia-US talks as they can be "removed as quickly as they were imposed."
