According to Bloomberg, Iran's Gulf neighbors are considering joining the US-Israeli war against Tehran. Sources familiar with the situation say that some of the major Arab players could be pushed to intervene if Iran attacks their critical infrastructure.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the two most powerful states in the region, are showing increasing patience with Iranian attacks, which have already hit ports, energy facilities and airports, according to sources. The sources asked to remain anonymous to speak freely.
However, according to the same sources, these countries will only enter into conflict if Tehran carries out threats to attack vital electricity and water supply infrastructure in the region.
Most Gulf states are moving in this direction, with a few exceptions such as Oman, which intends to maintain its role as a mediator. However, reluctance remains high, as there are fears that Iran could further escalate attacks on them.
A European diplomat in the region, quoted by Bloomberg, emphasizes that these countries risk being involved in a situation where a possible agreement between Donald Trump and Iran would leave them exposed to a damaged and angry regime.
The sources add that some governments worry that this scenario could happen even if they are not directly involved in the conflict.
