Bosnia issues arrest warrant for Milorad Dodik, he heads to Israel

Milorad Dodik, the president of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity, is in Israel where he will participate in a conference on anti-Semitism in Jerusalem on March 26 and 27, while an arrest warrant has been issued for him in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dodik arrived in Israel on Tuesday on a RS government plane that departed from Belgrade, Serbia.

The day before, under still unclear circumstances, he had crossed the border between Bosnia and Serbia to go to Batajnica, near Belgrade, where he participated in events organized for the anniversary of NATO bombing of Serbian targets.

The Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina has announced that it is conducting an investigation regarding Dodik's border crossing.

The President, Prime Minister and Speaker of the Assembly of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, Radovan Višković and Nenad Stevandić, are suspected of attacking the constitutional order, and a central arrest warrant has been issued for them, as confirmed to Radio Free Europe on March 17.

If a central arrest warrant is issued against a person, each of the 16 police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina is obliged to arrest him. Practically, all police agencies in the country have within their competence the prevention of criminal offenses, detection of perpetrators, elucidation of offenses and cooperation with the relevant prosecutor's offices.

Otherwise, Dodik was mentioned as one of the speakers at the conference in Jerusalem, organized by the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora.

In addition to Dodik, speakers at the conference include figures from the French far-right, Argentine President Javier Miel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and President Isaac Herzog.

The German Commissioner for Jewish Affairs, Felix Klein, has canceled his participation in the conference, which was previously confirmed to REL.

"When Mr. Felix Klein accepted the invitation several months ago, he was unaware of who would be attending the conference," his office said.

Eli Tauber, founder of the "Haggadah" Association, historian and member of the Jewish community in Bosnia, believes that Dodik should not participate in such a conference.

He tells Radio Free Europe that those who invited Dodik should know who he is and what he does.

"Whether they overlooked this intentionally or accidentally, I won't go into that, but then the fault is entirely theirs," he assesses.

He also believes that Dodik's goal is to present the situation in Bosnia the way he wants, including the positions of the highest RS officials, who claim that in Bosnia, specifically in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is a policy that supports Hamas - the Palestinian group declared a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union. /REL
