Britain wants to repair relations with the EU, Starmer in Berlin: We need a new

With the coming to power of the left-wing government of Keir Starmer, Great Britain is not only seeking to smooth over differences with the EU, but is also seeking to restore peace and establish good cooperative relations.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that his government wants to restore relations with the EU.

After a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, the prime minister said plans for a new treaty with Germany are about a "reset" with the EU.

Starmer clarified that restoring relations does not mean returning Brexit to re-enter the bloc.

"This does not mean reversing Brexit or re-entering the customs union. But it does mean a closer relationship on a number of fronts, including the economy, defence, trade, but we have no plans for a mobility scheme of young people ," he said.

Scholz and Starmer said they hoped a deal would be reached by the end of the year. However, they gave few details on what the deal might look like.

"Britain can advance its interests much more effectively when we work with friends and partners. This treaty is part of a wider reset, based on a new spirit of cooperation with our shared understanding that this will develop pace and which we hope to have agreed by the end of the year," said Starmer.
