Britain will continue with bone tests to determine the exact age of migrants who claim to be minors. As announced today by the conservative government, which has made the fight against irregular immigration a priority, the measure is part of a series of new proposals that will be presented this week to parliament.
Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick spoke of a critical new step in tackling the problem. Under this proposal, X-rays would be taken to scientifically determine a person's age when in doubt. X-rays of the teeth, hands, knees, clavicle or other bones may be required.
The government wants to avoid adults passing themselves off as minors and thereby benefiting from the special assistance that children receive. From 2016 to last June there were 11,275 such cases of people seeking asylum in Britain, deceiving themselves about their age.
