The Swedish government is considering donating Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine to help Kiev fight Russian troops, Swedish public radio (SR) reported.
The government wants to know, among other things, how the delivery of these aircraft would affect Sweden's defense capabilities and how quickly Sweden can acquire new Gripen aircraft, SR reported.
The Swedish executive will ask the armed forces on Thursday to officially look into the matter, SR said, citing anonymous sources.
Sweden's Ministry of Defense did not immediately comment on these reports.
The Netherlands and Denmark are pushing forward the process of supplying Ukraine with US-made F-16 fighter jets so that Kiev can counter Russia's air superiority.
According to SR, Ukraine hopes to receive a division of Gripen aircraft, which are produced by the Swedish company Saab, or 16-18 aircraft.
Sweden this year said it intended to allow Ukrainian pilots to test Gripen jets, but the government also said it needs all the planes it has to defend Swedish territory.
