US intelligence agencies believe Ukraine did not target a residence used by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a recent drone attack in northern Russia, according to US officials.
This CIA assessment directly contradicts a claim that Putin himself reportedly conveyed to US President Donald Trump during a phone call.
According to sources cited by CNN, CIA Director John Ratcliffe informed Trump on Wednesday that there is no evidence to confirm that there was an attack on the presidential residence or that it was targeted by Ukraine. This assessment contradicts Moscow's public accusations, which attributed the incident to Kiev. The claim became public after Trump told reporters that Putin had personally communicated to him that Ukraine had attempted to attack his residence. At the time, the US president expressed concern, stating that the information had angered him, although Kiev categorically denied the accusation.
"I don't like it. It's not good ," Trump said, adding that he was "very angry" when he heard the claim, although he acknowledged it was possible it was unfounded. "President Putin told me this morning that it happened," he said.
After the briefing from the CIA chief, Trump took a more cautious stance. On Wednesday, he shared a New York Post opinion piece on the Truth Social platform titled “Putin’s ‘Attack’ Bluff Shows Russia Is the One Hindering Peace.”
The article emphasized that there is no evidence that the attack took place and described Putin's reaction as hypocritical, also recalling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's categorical denial and the Kremlin's admission that it cannot provide evidence.
The revelation of the US assessment, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, comes at a time of intense diplomatic contacts led by Trump and his envoys to end the war in Ukraine. Putin's claim was made public a day after the Trump-Zelensky meeting at Mar-a-Lago, where the US president had expressed cautious optimism about progress towards a peace deal.
Some European officials believe the alleged attack may have been an attempt by the Kremlin to undermine peace initiatives without entering into direct conflict with Trump. The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, described the claim as a "deliberate distraction."
The Russian Defense Ministry, meanwhile, said a total of 91 drones were launched from Ukraine toward Putin's residence near Valdai, in the Novgorod region. According to Moscow, more than half of them were shot down hundreds of kilometers from the target, while the rest were neutralized over the Novgorod region in the early hours of the morning. The ministry also published a map showing the alleged course of the drones, but without providing independent, verifiable data.
That’s mean, bombing the head of snake is very big problem and worrying about killing millions mother’s sons means fuck them. Anti moral has been “noble moral” from ancient times. The strange thing is why people never ever learn lessons.
