A direct conflict between Russia and NATO would become inevitable if the military alliance sends troops to fight in Ukraine.
It is the strong warning that comes from the Kremlin, a few hours after the French president opened the door to the possibility of sending Western forces to Kiev, although he stressed that consensus on such a step had not been reached.
" The mere fact that the possibility of sending certain contingents to Ukraine from NATO countries is being discussed is a very important new element. In this case, we would no longer talk about the possibility, but the inevitability of a NATO-Russia war ," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
According to Russia, sending NATO troops to Ukraine would not be in the interest of the West. The military alliance, for its part, hastened to clarify that it has no plans to send forces to the country in the war.
Allies are providing unprecedented support to Ukraine. We have been doing it since 2014 and we intensified it after the Russian war. But there are no plans to send combat troops to the ground ," said alliance secretary general Jens Stoltenberg.
Also, an official of the White House affirmed that the united states do not intend to take such a step. Russia declared on Tuesday that it had prevented a terrorist attack with chemical weapons by Ukrainians in the Zaporizhia region.
