The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, has apologized to Germany for the statement of the Serbian Minister of the Interior, Bratislav Gashič, regarding the investigations into the murder of the Serbian politician from Kosovo, Oliver Ivanović.

"We verified it with the members of the German service in the previous 20 days, since the claims of Bratislav Gashič that they are hiding the killers in the case of Oliver Ivanovic, and we got assurances and evidence that they are not hiding this information," said Vučić.

He added that, on behalf of Gashiçi, he apologizes for the statement, while adding that he hopes that "concrete results" will be achieved in the future.

On June 21, Minister Gashič, in a session of the Assembly of Serbia, said that the Serbian authorities "know exactly" who killed the Serbian politician from the north of Kosovo, Oliver Ivanović.

"We know exactly who the killer is and we asked the German authorities, under whose protection that man is at the moment, to provide us with information", said the Serbian minister, while answering the parliamentary questions.

A day later, on June 22, Gashič also said in the Assembly that he does not accuse Germany of hiding the killer of Oliver Ivanović, but said that his statement was "broadcast without question" and this gave his statement a different meaning.

"We asked the German authorities under whose protection that man is at the moment - question mark - to give us information", Gashič said on June 23.

In the transcript of the Assembly session, which has been published on the website of the Assembly of Serbia, no question mark has been placed on Gashiç's statement.

In June, the government in Berlin rejected Gashici's "insinuations" and declared that Germany does not know who killed the politician from Kosovo, Oliver Ivanović.

Ivanović was killed on January 16, 2018, with six shots in the back, in front of his party's building in North Mitrovica. More than five years after the murder, the case is still unsolved.

The Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo has so far filed three indictments for the murder of Ivanovic.

The Ministries of Justice of Kosovo and Serbia do not cooperate, while the procedures in Kosovo require the mediation of EULEX for obtaining witness statements.
