Venezuela's Vice President and Oil Minister, Delcy Rodriguez, was sworn in as the country's interim president.
Rodriguez, 56, a labor activist known for her close ties to the private sector and her loyalty to the ruling party, was sworn in before her brother, Jorge, who is president of the National Assembly. The 283 lawmakers elected last May were also sworn in today. Most of them are close to the government. The opposition, particularly the faction led by Maria Corina Machado, who recently won the Nobel Peace Prize, boycotted the process.

The only lawmaker not to attend today's first session of the National Assembly was First Lady Celia Flores, who was arrested with Maduro and is in New York.
Rodriguez said she feels "pain due to the kidnapping of two heroes held hostage in the United States," but also "honor that (the president) is swearing in on behalf of all Venezuelans."
