Forced Biden to withdraw from race, Pelosi admits: I don't talk to the

Nancy Pelosi has admitted she has yet to speak to Joe Biden since her crucial intervention in July led to his decision to drop out of the presidential race after a disastrous performance in a debate against Donald Trump.

The former speaker of the House of Representatives told the Guardian on the Politics Weekly America podcast that while she continues to regard the US president as a great friend and longtime political ally, she felt a cold political calculation was necessary after the evidence. of Biden's mental breakdown.

"Not since then, no!" she said when asked if she had spoken to Biden since then. "But I'm praying about it."

She added:  “I have the utmost respect for him. I think he is one of the greatest presidents of our country. I think his legacy had to be protected. I didn't see it happening the way it was, the election was on. My cry was only: 'Let us go on a better course.' He will decide what it is. And he made that decision. But I think he has a concern because we've been friends for decades.

Choices are decisions. You decide to win. A while ago I decided that Donald Trump would never step foot in the White House again as president of the United States or in any other capacity... So when you make a decision, you have to make every decision in favor of victory and the best decision most important of all is the candidate,"  Pelosi said.

Known as a uniquely influential speaker in the House, particularly during a Biden administration that passed major infrastructure and climate legislation, Pelosi was widely seen as a senior Democrat willing to suggest that Biden should reconsider his re-election bid. when the polls showed Trump beating him badly.

After Biden withdrew, Pelosi then encouraged the party to support Kamala Harris and scored another victory when the vice president named Tim Walz as her running mate.

Pelosi has also been a longtime thorn in Trump's side, often antagonizing him in posting long rants about him on social media and publicly ripping his 2020 State of the Union address from the podium. House of Representatives, calling it a "manifesto of untruths".

Explaining her unique ability to hold together a fragile coalition of centrist and progressive Democrats, Pelosi explained that she thinks leadership is about respect, building consensus, while mocking Trump's ability to do so , especially with his rhetoric of hatred towards immigrants, whom he has described as "poisoning the blood of the country".
