Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has never believed in peace.
Pelosi, a US political heavyweight, said a two-state solution was not viable as long as Netanyahu remained in office.
Speaking at Chatham House, London, she said she did not think he had ever believed in peace or a two-state solution.
“The US supports Israel, but does not approve of the level of collateral damage. Now, there are those who say the Israelis are taking too many precautions. Well, clearly, it's not enough ," she said.
This statement marks a major blow from the US policy towards Israel and Netanyahu. It could also provide insight into a Kamala Harris presidency, whose candidacy was strongly supported by Pelosi and Obama.
