Senior diplomats from the US, Turkey, the EU and Arab countries met today as a new government begins to form in Syria after the ouster of Bashar al-Assad.
Antony Blinken said it was a time of opportunity but also of real challenge for Syria ahead of the meeting, which was held in Aqaba.
The Arab Ministerial Contact Committee on Syria has expressed its official commitment to support a peaceful transition of power led by Syria, representing all factions.
The group consists of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt and the Secretary General of the Arab League.
In a statement, the group says it underlines the importance of respecting the rights of the Syrian people in all its components, without any discrimination based on race, sect or religion.
He also stressed the need for "comprehensive national dialogue" and unity among Syrians to rebuild a "unified, independent, stable and secure Arab state.
