A former Israeli ambassador to the United States said he fears Iran will force Washington into war by attacking an American ship or base.
Michael Oren said that there are some individuals in the White House who do not want the US to enter another war in the Middle East.
"If Iran were to attack the US first, pressure on Trump would increase within the White House itself, and President Trump would put pressure on Israel, so that an end to the fighting could then be negotiated ," he said.
"That's how the Iranians might think. That's a fear I have ," Oren adds.
Oren emphasizes that Israel must continue its attacks and adds that now is not the time for a ceasefire, as some in the US have suggested.
"Why would anyone want us to stop? Why wouldn't anyone want to see Iran significantly weakened?" he said.
