Donald Trump threatened that Iran would be "blown off the face of the earth" if US ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump has threatened that the United States will take strong military action against Iran if its ships are attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic corridors of global energy transport.
In an interview with FOX News, he emphasized that the US has advanced and globally distributed capabilities, ready to be used at any moment.
"We have more weapons and ammunition at a much higher level than we had before. We have the best equipment. We have bases all over the world and they are all equipped with equipment. We can use all of these things and we will use them, if we need to," Trump said.
The statements come in a context of escalating tensions in the Middle East, following reports of Iran-linked missile and drone attacks in the region, including incidents that have also affected air and maritime traffic.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), US forces have intervened to neutralize the immediate threats. Admiral Brad Cooper said that six small Iranian naval vessels were destroyed and missiles and drones launched from Tehran were intercepted. He added that Iranian forces have been warned to stay away from US military assets, while operations in the region continue.
Meanwhile, tensions have also been reflected on the ground. In the United Arab Emirates, authorities reported drone and missile attacks attributed to Iran, including a strike on an oil industrial complex in Fujairah, where a large fire broke out.
The UAE Ministry of Defense announced that four missiles were launched from Iranian territory, three of which were neutralized by air defense systems, while another ended up in the sea without causing damage. Defense systems also intervened to intercept drones in airspace.
The National Emergency Management Authority activated alerts for the population, signaling an emerging threat. In a later announcement, authorities stated that the situation was under control and normal activities could resume.
Developments in the Persian Gulf indicate a fragile security situation, where any incident risks affecting regional stability, as well as global energy markets and international transport.
