"There will be reforms and changes," Rubio on the chat scandal:

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today that someone had made a "big mistake" by adding The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg to a Signal chat about attack plans in Yemen.

Rubio claimed the conversation was designed to coordinate communications. Asked if the information was classified, he referred to the Pentagon, noting that it said it was not. He stated that the Pentagon was “in charge of the current operation.”

"I think there will be reforms and changes so that this never happens again. It can't happen again," he said at a press conference in Jamaica.

"I have been assured by the Pentagon and everyone involved that none of the information, at any time, threatened the operation or the lives of our service members," Rubio added.

As for his role in the conversation, Rubio noted that he identified his point of contact, his chief of staff, and later congratulated the team after the attack on Houthi targets in Yemen was officially announced.

"Obviously someone made a mistake. Someone made a big mistake and added a journalist. I have nothing against journalists, but you shouldn't be in this," said the State Department secretary, who is also a former ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
