"We will close them and say goodbye," Polish president threatens
President of Poland, Andrzej Duda

The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, has made strong statements regarding Poland's role in supporting Ukraine and his country's position at international decision-making tables.

In a recent interview with Polish media, he warned that Warsaw could close the strategic Rzeszów airport, through which Western aid to Ukraine passes.

"The Ukrainians and their Western allies act as if the Rzeszów airport and our highways are theirs. But they are not, they are ours. If someone doesn't like it, we close it and say 'goodbye'. We are doing reconstruction, closing the airport and let them send aid to Ukraine by sea, by air, I don't know... parachute in - find a solution," Duda said in a harsh tone.

The Polish president stressed that Poland has provided exceptional assistance to Ukraine since the first day of Russian aggression, but this support should not be taken for granted.

"I believe that my relationship with Zelensky brought benefits to Poland, especially in the first months of the war. But did we benefit enough from this support? No. We should have shown that we cannot be ignored. There were smarter ways to act, but unfortunately they were not implemented. I think it was a mistake," he declared.

Another key point of President Duda's statements was Poland's exclusion from several international forums where decisions were made on sending aid through Polish territory.

"We were not invited to some of the most important international tables. I considered it a scandal. I even blocked the conclusions of the NATO summit in Vilnius because they did not include Poland in decision-making, even though the aid passes through our territory," Duda said.

He stressed that this is not an issue to be discussed with Ukraine, but with Western allies.

"There's no point in discussing this with Ukraine. We need to talk to Germany, to the US. We need to have the courage to say that we have the right to sit at the table," the president concluded.

Rzeszów Airport has been a key logistical hub for military and humanitarian supplies to Ukraine since the outbreak of the war, making it essential to NATO and the EU's strategy of supporting Kiev.
