Epstein and the global networks: how the documents shocked world politicians and princes

The recent release of documents related to the US Department of Justice's investigation into the crimes of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has caused political upheaval around the world. The files, which include more than three million pages of documents, were released for the first time after a law passed by the administration of former President Donald Trump required the disclosure of documents.

Epstein was convicted of sex abuse in 2008 but avoided federal charges that could have sent him to life in prison, receiving an 18-month sentence and daytime work permits. He was arrested again in 2019 for sex trafficking of minors, but died in prison before his trial began.

The new documents reveal Epstein's communications and meetings with powerful figures from around the world, including politicians and businessmen from India, Australia, the United Kingdom, Norway and Slovakia.

India and Narendra Modi
The files show conversations between Indian billionaire Anil Ambani and Epstein after Epstein's first conviction in 2008. Ambani sought help in arranging meetings for Prime Minister Narendra Modi with senior US officials, including Jared Kushner and Steve Bannon. The files also reveal preparations for Modi's historic visit to Israel in 2017, marking a sharp shift in traditional Indian policy on the Palestinian issue.

Kevin Rudd, former Australian prime minister
Kevin Rudd's name appears in Epstein's files in connection with a meeting in New York in 2014, despite Rudd denying any friendly relationship with Epstein. The documents show special arrangements, including a request for non-vegetarian food for Rudd.

Peter Mandelson, British politician
The former British minister and life member of the House of Lords resigned from the Labour Party over new links to Epstein. Documents show Epstein gave Mandelson $75,000 in three transactions between 2003 and 2004.

Mette-Marit, Crown Princess of Norway
The files reveal thousands of emails between Epstein and Princess Mette-Marit, showing a close personal relationship over the years. The revelations come at a complicated time for the Norwegian royal family, as her son faces rape allegations.

Miroslav Lajcak, Slovakian national security adviser.
The documents also led to Lajcak's resignation, showing meetings and messages exchanged with Epstein in 2018 about women, during his tenure as foreign minister.

The new revelations are sparking intense international debate, bringing attention back to Epstein's global influence and his networks with senior political and economic figures, some of whom deny any illegal involvement. / Adapted from "Al Jazeera"
