The date of the visit has not yet been confirmed, nor whether Trump will also stop in Israel, Cyprus, or Turkey.
The visit has strategic importance for Southeast Europe, a region tense over maritime borders and energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean. The United States is increasing gas and oil investments in the region, strengthening ties with Greece, while Athens is strengthening cooperation with Israel and Cyprus.
Meanwhile, following high-level dialogue between Greece and Turkey, there is hope for a reduction in tensions, although Turkish NAVTEXs for disputed areas remain a source of concern.
Analysts note that increased American interest in energy could shift the balance of power and spur political solutions in the region.
Last week, the two countries launched a high-level political dialogue, which is expected to lead to a meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the first half of February.
