Iranian drones strike British base in Iraq, several American soldiers injured!

British troops were attacked by a group of Iranian drones at a military base in Iraq. UK air defense forces destroyed two drones, while other equipment escaped defense and hit the air base in Erbil, northern Iraq, last night.

This is the third such attack against British forces, following a drone attack on RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus and a missile that landed hundreds of metres away from British personnel in Bahrain.

Defense chiefs confirmed today that an unknown number of drones, believed to have been fired from Tehran, have struck the base in Erbil.

No British soldiers were reportedly injured in the attack. UK officials confirmed today that several US soldiers who were on the base at the time had suffered minor injuries as a result of the attack.

Describing the attack, Brigadier Guy Foden, assistant chief of staff for operations at the Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ), said the base was hit several times.

"Erbil and Baghdad were hit several times last night with increasing coordination. We have personnel in Erbil currently assisting with the defense of that base. Last night they shot down two UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles] coming towards the camp. But a number of UAVs impacted the camp ," he said.

Defense Secretary John Healey said Russia was helping Tehran refine the regime's drone tactics, which defense chiefs warned were making airstrikes more problematic to counter.

"No one would be surprised to believe that Vladimir Putin's hand is behind some of Iran's tactics and potentially some of their capabilities ," he said.

Erbil hosts hundreds of coalition troops and is crucial to efforts to train Kurdish security forces to fight Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists in Iraq.

It is understood that a small number of personnel from 2 Rifles and the RAF Regiment are among the British forces deployed to the region as part of the mission against ISIS, codenamed Operation Shader.

In recent weeks, more than 400 specialist British air defence troops and several RAF F-35B and Typhoon fighter jets have been deployed across the Middle East.

News of the latest attack came as one of Britain's top commanders warned that Iran was adopting drone tactics used by Russia in its war against Ukraine, making the attacks "more effective".

Overnight, Iran's new supreme leader warned the US to immediately close its bases in the Persian Gulf or face further attacks, in his first message since taking power.

Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei, had not been seen since US-Israeli strikes killed his father and other family members on the first day of the war. But in a written statement broadcast on Iranian state television, he vowed to continue attacking Gulf states if they did not expel US troops./ Pamphlet
