The two countries that would survive a nuclear war; scenario with 5 billion dead

How the situation in the Middle East will develop cannot be determined, but many are concerned about a nuclear war that would be capable of destroying the planet...

As the Middle East crisis takes center stage after the US-Israeli attacks on Iran, many are turning their attention to the worst-case scenario: nuclear war. Following the US-Israeli attacks on Iran on Friday and the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran has retaliated against US military installations across the Middle East. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Jordan have reported missile or drone attacks believed to have originated from Iran.

Meanwhile, Israel continues its attacks on Iran, also firing missiles into Lebanon, and promises to send troops into the territories to advance and occupy other strategic areas in Lebanon, to prevent the burning of communities on Israel's border.

How the situation in the Middle East will develop cannot be determined, however, many are concerned about a nuclear war, which would be capable of destroying the planet.

The two countries that would survive a nuclear war

Author and investigative journalist Annie Jacobsen, who wrote the book "Nuclear War: A Scenario," says only two countries could survive a nuclear war: New Zealand and Australia.

Speaking on the Diary Of A CEO podcast, Jacobsen painted a grim picture of what a global nuclear war would cause, saying that around five billion people would die within the first 72 minutes.

What would really happen to Earth if a nuclear war broke out?

With the extermination of most of Earth's population and the destruction of the land by nuclear fire, Jacobsen pointed out that one of the consequences would be the transition to a mini-ice age.

"Most of the world, certainly the mid-latitudes, will be covered in ice sheets. Places like Iowa and Ukraine will simply be covered in snow for 10 years. Agriculture will fail, and when agriculture fails, people will simply die. Furthermore, people will not be able to come into contact with the sun and will be forced to live underground because of radioactivity," he said.

Jacobsen worked with climate expert Professor Brian Toon, who discovered the two countries in the world that could "maintain their agriculture": Australia and New Zealand.

Which countries would be safe in the event of a world war?

No country is 100% safe from a nuclear war, but some countries are considered more "safe" than others. Factors that play a decisive role are geographical isolation, military neutrality, natural barriers (mountains, oceans), and political stability.

The countries that offer the greatest security are:

Iceland: isolated in the Atlantic, with a small population and neutrality.

Switzerland: has strategic neutrality for more than 200 years, strong defensive fortresses in the mountains, and survival plans in case of war.

New Zealand: far from major military conflicts, with strong food and natural resource autonomy.

South Africa: relatively isolated and politically stable region, but more sensitive to regional tensions.

Patagonia (Argentina/southern Chile): very remote areas with low population density.
