A South African woman claims that Jeffrey Epstein involved her in his network in the early 2000s, recruiting her in Cape Town and then transporting her to the United States and his private island in the Caribbean.
Juliette Bryant, now 43, says she met Epstein in 2002, when she was 20, a student and aspiring model. She claims she didn't speak out about her experience until after his death in 2019. According to her, he created a psychological dependency and a sense of fear that prevented her from reporting it earlier, Sky News reports.
Bryant explains that at that time her family was facing financial problems and she considered the offers of trips abroad as career opportunities. She states that three weeks after the first meeting in a restaurant in Cape Town, she traveled for the first time outside of South Africa, to New York. In the same environment, she says, were also Bill Clinton, who was making an official visit for AIDS awareness issues, as well as actors Kevin Spacey and Chris Tucker.
She claims that immediately after arriving in New York, she was told she would be continuing on to the Caribbean. A driver took her to Teterboro Airport, where she boarded a private jet bound for Epstein's island. On board, according to her testimony, were Epstein himself and two women who had initially contacted him in Cape Town.
Bryant claims that during the flight Epstein touched her without her consent and that she feared for her personal safety. She adds that on the island he repeatedly sexually abused her, while she was not taken to other people. According to her, she spent most of her time in isolation, while Epstein held meetings and other activities.
Documents released in the investigative files known as the "Epstein files" include her case and show that trips by young women from Cape Town to London, Atlanta and New York continued until the end of 2018. US authorities arrested Epstein in 2019. He was found dead in his cell while awaiting trial.
