Drone attacks in Moscow, nuclear plant explodes; flights are suspended at three

Russia announced that this morning it is dealing with several drone attacks in the vicinity of the capital and a nuclear power plant. Ukraine, meanwhile, said its army is continuing its counteroffensive in the east and south of the country against Russian occupation forces.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defense systems shot down two drones he said were approaching the city. The drones crashed south of Moscow, he wrote on Telegram.

Russia's state news agency TASS reported that flights were temporarily suspended Friday at Moscow's three largest airports, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Vnukovo.

There have been constant disruptions to the take off and landing of planes at Moscow airports in recent times due to the threat of drones.

A drone attack was also reported in Kurchatov, near a nuclear power plant in the Kursk region, regional governor Roman Starovoit said.

Emergency services went to the scene to assess the damage to an administrative building and a residential building as a result of the attack, he said.

Starovoit did not mention any possible damage to the Kursk nuclear power plant, nor did it give details about the buildings that were hit.

Earlier, a local governor in the western region of Pskov said Russian air defenses had "neutralized an unidentified object".

The Pskov region, about 700 miles north of the Ukrainian border, was the target of a major drone strike earlier this week. The drones struck an airport causing a massive fire and damaging four Il-76 transport planes, TASS reported on August 30, citing Russian officials.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on August 31 that Ukraine has developed a weapon capable of hitting a target 700 kilometers away, referring to the attack on the Pskov airport.

Zelensky said the weapon was produced by Ukraine's Ministry of Strategic Industries, but gave no other details.

Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that more than 25 battles took place on the front line in the last 24 hours.
